Public Art Piece, 16th Street Mall (Alley between Stout and California, Northeast side) Denver, CO 2018
Public Body
"Public Body" was commissioned by the Downtown Denver Partnership Business Improvement District as part of the 2018 "Between Us Alleys" project curated by Cortney Stell of the Black Cube Nomadic Museum.
This piece is located on the northeast side of the alley between California and Stout streets off the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver.
Statement:
Inspired by Judith Butler's speech titled Bodies in Alliance and the Politics of the Street, this artwork speaks to the significance of human interaction with public space. Through a series of vibrant, body-like forms, Toan's installation encourages viewers to reenvision the alley's traditional function into a place for public gathering.
